Redevelopment at Queen Mary University
Planning ref: PA/22/00951/A1
Queen Mary University has submitted a plan to demolish a students' hall of residence at Mile End Lock and to replace it with a 7-storey building that will drown out the Lock Keeper's Cottage.
This supersedes a plan that was rejected by the planning committee in 2019. The revised plan is an improvement on the previous one in that it seeks to retain a listed building at 357 Mile End Road but the height, bulk and proximity to the water's edge will be unpalatable to many towpath users.
