Subject: Friends of Regent's Canal - Eagle Wharf Crisis (Holborn Studios).

Dear Friends,

As many of you are aware, there are fresh proposals to redevelop the Holborn Studios site at Eagle Wharf. A public consultation started last Friday and it will run until 9th January. There is a public event today (Thursday 4th December) that will allow you to quiz the planning consultants about what might happen to the buildings, the local businesses, the canal environment and the culture of this part of London.

For details about today's event please view this page:-

Please note that the existing buildings are gainfully occupied and are well maintained by Holborn Studios, who employ hundreds of people, directly or indirectly, and who make a positive contribution to the canal and to the culture of this part of Hackney. If the proposals involve any downsizing of the studios or a homogenisation of the buildings then this could spark an exodus of creative talent from Hoxton. There could be a lot more at stake than a few spectacular canal views.

Please take the opportunity to attend this event, to study the physical design and to seek assurances that there no plans to displace any amenities that you value, and please feel free to discuss your thoughts with others before submitting any formal comments.

We are arranging an emergency meeting on Monday 15th December to discuss these proposals. We can also arrange visits to the studios for anybody who would like to see for themselves how these buildings are currently being put to use.
