Subject: Friends of Regent's Canal - next public meeting and other news.

Dear Friends,

The provisional date for our next public meeting is Wednesday 26th November. Please put this in your diaries and keep an eye on our website for any updates.

Please contact me if there is anything you would like me to add to the agenda. One of the themes under discussion will be mooring capacity and this will be a good opportunity for everyone to understand the supply and demand parameters. There are some diverse views on the purpose of the canal, including a transport highway, a wildlife corridor, a floating housing estate, an open space for the benefit of all Londoners and an ornamental water feature to catalyse the sale of luxury flats. I feel we should take stock of these conflicting priorities before trying to sketch out a vision for further moorings and since we are an independent group we are well placed to discuss this.

Minutes of our latest meeting (10th September) are now available on our website.

Over the next few weeks there will be a number of volunteering events and some of them are centred around planned canal closures. The drainage of the Regent's Canal below Johnson's Lock is of particular interest and the first opportunity to get involved with this is on 6th November. Please follow us on Twitter or visit our website ( http://friendsofregentscanal.org/main/events.html) for further news.

You will have noticed that your e-mail addresses are always concealed from others in these bulletins. We will never change this approach for the circulars that go to hundreds of recipients but I am looking to open up parts of our address list for those of you who are happy to share your email addresses with other canal supporters. This will help to mobilise a few sub groups and it means that I will become less of a communications bottleneck between meetings. If you would like to share your address with others or get more involved in our correspondence then please let me know. Please also make use of our Facebook group for any informal exchanges of views.

Best wishes
