Subject: Friends of Regent's Canal - public meeting on Wed 28th May.

Dear Friends,

Our next public meeting will take place on Wednesday 28th May (7pm to 9pm) at the London Canal Museum (12-13 New Wharf Road, London N1 9RT). The main item on the agenda will be a talk on air quality by Dr Gary Fuller of King's College London.

If you have any comments or questions that you would like to submit in advance then please contact me directly or send and email to friendsregentscanal@gmail.com. Please also take the opportunity to comment on the minutes of our last meeting http://friendsofregentscanal.org/meetings/minutes-2014-02-19.html

We have made progress in certain areas since the last meeting but one issue that has caused huge disappointment is the closure of the picturesque walkway below Vincent Terrace. Once the local elections are behind us we can start lobbying Islington Council and other parties to recover this public space before summer is over. Please contact me if you want to help with this or if you want more information.

We are continuing to find ways of improving communication amongst ourselves. Our Twitter account has attracted over 400 followers and this is helping us to make announcements at very short notice. The website is still serving as a reference area and there are no immediate plans to turn it into an interactive forum, but it will soon be supplemented by a Facebook group that will allow everyone to exchange information on an informal basis.

We are also trying to create more opportunities for face-to-face communication through holding ad-hoc social events along the canal. There are various cafes opening up along the towpath and we should make good use of any Wifi or other facilities they offer because community involvement is usually a condition of their planning permission. Please send in any suggestions and preferences for locations and times.

I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you at one of our meetings.

Best wishes,

Ian Shacklock
