Please be aware that there will be local elections on 22nd May so you will have opportunities to quiz your future councillors over the next few weeks. If you meet any candidates in the street, on your doorstep or at hustings meetings then please ask them how they or their political party intend to support the canal and its surroundings. They will have a say in planning applications that affect boat movements, open spaces and public access and they can influence budgets for maintaining walking environments in the interests of transport and wellbeing. I am very interested in hearing about any responses they give.

After the Easter break I hope that we can arrange a series of informal meetings in cafes and other places along the canal, to make use of some of the facilities that we have campaigned for. This will help us to form sub-groups with special interests, such as canalside architecture, litter control, mooring, boating. We will use our Twitter account to publicise these events.

Best wishes,

Ian Shacklock
