Subject: Friends of Regent's Canal - Events and activities in August

Dear Friends,

If you are staying in London during August then please make a note of the events below.

Even if you cannot attend these organised events, this is a good time of year to make use of the lesser spotted open spaces that are available to the public yet are disguised as private compounds. For example the under-utilised gardens on the Western edge of City Road Basin that we have worked hard to publicise in recent years. Please contact me for further details on spaces to watch out for and please report any gates that you find locked during park opening hours. Please also report any anti-social behaviour that you feel is spoiling people's enjoyment of the canal.

EVENTS

On Saturday 10th August the London Canal Museum is hosting a family-friendly event to celebrate its original function as an ice warehouse. For further details and a press release visit http://friendsofregentscanal.org/events/2013/2013-08-10/ice-event.html

For the next three Saturdays, 11am to 5pm, the Islington Boat Club is open for a family fun day at City Road Basin. For further details, visit http://friendsofregentscanal.org/events/2013/2013-08-10/IBC-Fun-Days.html

On Monday 12th August, 1:30pm to 4:30pm, there is an Ice Study Day at the London Canal Museum. For details visit http://www.canalmuseum.org.uk/whatson/ice-events.htm

On Saturday 17th August, 12 noon to 5pm, CHUG are welcoming the public to another open day at Kingsland Basin, Hackney. This is a good opportunity to meet members of the local boating community and to find out about painting roses and castles. For further details, visit http://friendsofregentscanal.org/events/2013/2013-08-17/open-day-kingsland.html

ANGEL CANAL FESTIVAL

On Sunday 1st September the Friends of Regent's Canal will have a canal-side stall at the Angel Canal Festival. Over the next few weeks we will be preparing displays that will help to promote our activities and recruit new participants. Please contact me if you can offer any help with display materials, transport, book sales and so on.

OUR NEXT MEETING

Our next public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 11th September. Please contact me in the next few days if you want anything added to the agenda.

Best wishes,

Ian Shacklock
