Subject: Friends of Regent's Canal - Events in May

Dear Friends,

Here are some dates for your diaries.

Saturday 4th to Monday 6th May 2013. Canalway Cavalcade at Little Venice. 10am to 5pm (or later). This combines a boat rally with a trade show and a wide range of activities and entertainments, and claims the title of London's premier waterway event. Official opening ceremony is at 2pm on the Saturday and this is probably the best time to meet up with people you are hoping to find. The Friends of Regent's Canal will be contactable via one of the IWA's information stalls. Even if you are unable to attend this event I recommend that you look at its programme, which contains some useful articles and local advertisements. (PDF file is available on the web page below).

Wednesday 8th May 2013. Islington Cyclists AGM at Islington Town Hall. 8:15pm. Guest speaker is Dr Robert Davis (chair of Road Danger Reduction Forum). Whilst this is not directly related to canals, it should be relevant to the campaign to find better alternative routes for cyclists.

Saturday 18th May 2013. Arts on Ice Event (Museums at Night) at the London Canal Museum. 5:30pm to 11pm. This is one of a series of events being organised by the museum to educate people of all ages about its own history as an ice warehouse.

Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May 2013. Rickmansworth Canal Festival on the Grand Union Canal, at Rickmansworth. 11am to 6pm. This can be reached by boat, towpath, road, rail or underground. Whilst this is quite a distance from the Regent's Canal, it is popular with the same people who visit the Little Venice and Angel canal festivals and could be a useful opportunity to meet people with similar interests and to exchange ideas, stories, etc.

Wednesday 29th May 2013. Friends of Regent's Canal Public Meeting. London Canal Museum, 7pm. One of the topics on the agenda will be canal architecture and by looking at good and bad examples we should be able to find some common views on the types of proposals we should be supporting or opposing in future. In the next couple of weeks I will be publishing a photo gallery and I will welcome any contributions and comments.

Please contact me if you are unable to view the links below or if you any other queries about these events.
