Subject: Friends of Regent's Canal - Towpath Consultation

Dear Friends,

The towpath consultation ends today, but I am hoping that we can continue to exchange ideas while the staff at British Waterways absorb the public's comments and take their conceptual design to the next stage.

I believe that the proposals have stimulated a lot of discussion and it is becoming clear that there is no straightforward engineering solution that will not attract opposition from mainstream users.

...and click on the "Next" button to step through the individual extracts.

For many of us, it is now a high priority to establish an alternative route to divert speedy cyclists away from the congested stretch between Packington Estate and the Islington Tunnel. Otherwise several of these proposals could become void.

If there is enough interest then I am prepared to publish some of your comments, including alternative proposals, on the Friends website. It does not seem fair to leave all the analysis and decision making to the overstretched British Waterways staff and their consultants, considering the amount of knowledge and experience we share amongst ourselves. If you would like your views to be included on the website then please let me know.

Best wishes,

Ian Shacklock
Chair, Friends of Regent's Canal
