Subject: Friends of Regent’s Canal – Invitation to Cyclists’ public meeting (Wed 11th May)

Dear Friends

Please note that you are all welcome to attend the AGM of the Islington Cyclists’ Action Group.

The guest speaker will be Jenny Jones, who spoke at our own meeting on 1st March.

The meeting will be at the Islington Town Hall, Upper Street N1 2UD. It will start at 7.30pm with a review of the year, election of officers & committee and any urgent business. Then refreshments will be served and Jenny Jones will arrive at 8.30pm to give a short talk and then answer any questions, with the evening finishing by 9.30pm. Jenny’s talk should interest cyclists and walkers alike, because she will be addressing safety issues. Since attending our meeting two months ago, Jenny has sharpened her awareness of hazards and conflicts on the towpath and this is a timely opportunity for her to share her concerns with cyclists and the local press.

If you are unable to attend, but want to know more about what is happening with towpath cycling, then please let me know. I am actively experimenting with alternative cycle routes, with the intention of luring speedier cyclists off the towpath, and I have posted some photographs on our website. Once we have promoted these routes, and improved the signage, we will be in a stronger position to lobby TfL to implement calming measures in "near-miss hotspots".

Regards,

Ian Shacklock
