On 6th May 2022, without any prior warning, Islington Council closed the premises of the Islington Boat Club.
As at 24th October 2022, no official statements have been issued by the council. There is no ETA for when it will be reopened to the public. To date, the council has taken no action to give any confidence to the public that this plot of land will not be sold to developers or that it will be redeployed as private boating facility beyond the financial reach of underprivileged families.
On 20th October 2022, the status of the boat club was discussed briefly at a public meeting of the Friends of Regent's Canal.
No conclusions were reached and no slides were available during the meeting, but the following information was circulated to the attendees after the meeting:
