Dear Matt Payne,

The proposal to locally list Holborn Studios is fantastic news.

I am a firm supporter of that action.

The clear message to developers is to:

nurture building complexes such as these for wider community benefit
secure not erode canal heritage
value the setting of the canal
value the diversity of creative work space provision in London that contributes so much to the unique character of London's built heritage and working environment

I commend the energy and pure hard work of the Friends of Regents Canal in highlighting this asset and contributing to this important conservation proposal.

Best wishes
Jo

Dear Mr Payne

Holborn Studios Local Listing

On behalf of the Arlington Association I would like to express our support for the proposal to locally list Holborn Studios. As the residents association who represents the neighbourhood in Islington immediately adjacent to this property we feel strongly that preserving such historic buildings along the Regent's Canal is very important.

The recent planning application responses from our members showed how strongly the local community feel about this building and we believe it is important that the current building is retained. The current tenants demonstrate that such buildings can be adapted for modern use. Significant new building has taken place on the canal in recent years and we feel it essential that buildings that reflect the historic use of the canal are retained for future generations.

The Arlington Association is made up of residents of the westerly part of the Arlington Conservation area that covers from Arlington Avenue in the South to Basire and Prebend Streets in the North, New North Road in the East to Bevan St, Union Square and Rector Street in the West and consequently any development along the stretch of canal where Holborn Studios is located impacts our members.

Yours sincerely

Gordon McArthur
Chair, Arlington Association

Subject: Local Listing of Holborn Studios
Dear Matt,

On behalf of the Friends of Regent's Canal I would like to offer my full support for your proposal to add the Holborn Studios buildings to Hackney's Local Heritage List.

As you might already know, our group has been extremely anxious about development proposals that threatened to demolish these iconic buildings and to displace established creative businesses. We articulated our feelings at a public meeting in November 2012 when the developers' ideas were presented to us and many of us sent objections to the council planning officer.

You will find some examples of our correspondence with Hackney Council on these web pages:-

You will also find a dedicated area on our website at the following address, which is being used to spread the word about your proposals.

I sincerely hope that your proposals are accepted without delay and I can assure you that there is widespread support for retaining these industrial buildings.

Regards,
Ian Shacklock
Chair, Friends of Regent's Canal
