Biodiversity

At our meeting on 2nd March 2011 the biodiversity representatives from Camden, Islington and Hackney provided updates on their current projects and future events.

Camden

The Camden Biodiversity Partnership is developing its second action plan. The first plan was a 5 year strategy for prioritised habitats and species for the Borough from 2002. The Partnership consisted of over 21 local groups and landowners including Camden Council, the City of London, the Royal Parks, British Waterways, Camley Street Natural Park, Camden Nature Reserves Forum, local naturalists and recorders and other local groups.

Hackney

Hackney's Biodiversity Partnership (HBP) was set up in Spring 2009 with the aim of encouraging the conservation, maintenance and enhancement of biodiversity within the borough and to act as a link between Hackney Council and representatives from the community and voluntary sector with an interest or expertise in biodiversity. It is working to develop a Hackney Biodiversity Action Plan.

Islington

Islington’s Biodiversity Action Plan was put together by a biodiversity partnership, made up of local businesses, organisations and groups, and members of the community, which now forms the Islington Biodiversity Partnership.

It was preceded by Wild Islington’ - Islington’s Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) 2004-2009’.
