Description

Unfortunately due to a boat strike we've made the decision to close City Road Lock.

We will update this notice with more information once our team have evaluated the damage.

UPDATE:

We are pleased to update that our team have now stabilised and secured the gate. Although we cannot offer assisted passage today, we are working as quickly as we can to offer assisted passage to narrow craft only once the necessary resources are in place. We have a contractor looking to repair so that the lock can be opened to all craft. We will continue to update this notice.

We are pleased to announce that we have now got everything in place to be able to offer assisted passage through City Road Lock for single narrow craft only.

The days/times are as follows:
Thursday 1st May 2025 10:30 - 14:00
Friday 2nd May 2025 10:30 - 14:00
Saturday 3rd May 2025 10:30 - 14:00
Monday 5th May 2025 10:30 - 14:00

Its important to note that boaters will need to turn off engines, disembark and handover the craft to the Trust to manually pull through the lock. If you are waiting to go through the lock please be patient with our colleagues and volunteers undertaking the operation.

Please be advised that if the stability of the damaged gate is affected at any time then assisted passage will immediately be stopped.

We have contractors fabricating metalwork for a patchwork repair and will be on site on Tuesday 6th May 2025 when the lock will be closed for the day. We are hoping that subject to an engineering assessment on Tuesday following this repair that we can re-open the lock to be used by all craft.
