Islington Council has awarded a green heritage plaque to Beryl Windsor for her services to the Angel Canal Festival.
The official unveiling of Beryl’s plaque, by the Mayor of Islington, will take place on the towpath by City Road Lock at 3.30pm on Wednesday 26th March 2025.
Beryl organised the annual Angel Canal Festival for over twenty years as an unpaid volunteer after the death of Crystal Hale, who founded the event to save City Road Basin for the benefit of the local community. Beryl developed the festival into one of the best loved community events in Islington and was awarded the Civic Award and the British Empire Medal for her sterling and indefatigable work in 2014. Under her leadership the event brought together all the canal-related organisations in central London to promote the wonderful leisure, educational and social benefits of the City Road Basin waterspace.
