Greg's hunt for a wharf

Dear FRC, We are organic registered farmers in Oxfordshire. We were part of BARGING AROUND BRITIAN series 2, episode 5. We produce squash and pumpkins for the restaurants in London. Some of our customers are: Kew Gdns, Royal Academy, National Gallery, Polpo Restaurants, Murano Restaurants, etc. We serve about 60 places in and around London. We have a pair of sheeted up working narrowboats; a motorboat Arbour and butty Gaia. Our dream for more than 30 years has been to bring our produce to LON by narrowboat. This dream has almost been shattered by looking for a wharf to bring our boats to for about 3 months in the Autumn with road access alongside to distribute the produce to the restaurants. When sales were finished we would return during the Winter Solstice "open" period to our wharf at our farm on the South Oxford Canal just North of the village of Cropredy. I have searched in vain for a suitable wharf to no avail for many years and would welcome any help FRC could provide; CRT have been less then helpful. I would be willing to come to your next meeting and provide more information about this proposal if it is not a conflict with my fundraising activities in the summer for The Banbury Canal Partnership of which I am a committee member. My name is Greg Klaes and I can be contacted on 07831 631 671.

WATER FOR WILDLIFE

The Water for Wildlife project that aims to expand surveying and monitoring of freshwater species and habitats across the capital, training and upskilling a team of volunteers in surveying, monitoring and practical conservation. In her role as a Project Officer, Rosanna Chambers will be covering the north and east of London including Regents Canal. This continues work undertaken on various sites, including rivers such as the Crane and Wandle, Regents Canal, reservoirs such as Woodberry Wetlands, ponds such as Braeburn Park, and also their conservation works aimed at improving conditions for London's water vole populations. They will be monitoring a range of freshwater habitats across London encompassing reservoirs, canals, rivers and marshland with practical conservation improvements made to a number of sites in order to strengthen their wildlife value for a number of key aquatic species (with a particular focus on dragonflies and damselflies). They will also be developing a web based survey to engage the wider community in London's freshwater habitats and aim to create a London atlas for dragonflies and damselflies, historically an underrepresented group in aquatic conservation projects.

They will be formally launching the project and citizen science dragonfly and damselfly survey in late June and funding provided by Esmee Fairburn Foundation and Thames Water will allow them to run activities until the end of December 2019.
