Subject: IWA London Region Canal Clean-up - 22 November

IWA London Region has asked that the following information be forwarded to you. Please direct any replies or queries to Stefanie Preston, IWA Branch Campaign Assistant, at stefanie.preston@waterways.org.uk.

Dear Member,

This is a reminder that there is still time to book your free place on what promises to be a great IWA London Region Canal Clean-up on Saturday 22nd November.

Volunteers are being given the chance to descend onto the canalbed of the Regent's Canal, where Canal & River Trust (CRT) has recently drained the water to carry out major works. The task of the day will be to clear the canalbed of debris that is usually difficult to locate and remove when the Canal is in water. Not only is this an opportunity to get involved with improving the canal environment but it is also a rare chance to see the navigation from a different perspective and see what really is at the bottom!

The day will run from 10am to about 4pm and volunteers will need to come in old clothes, be prepared for the weather and have a packed lunch. CRT is providing the necessary safety equipment but reminds people access to the site is down steps and the canalbed will be muddy and uneven, so may not be suitable for all.

If you, your friends or family would like to join the group on what should be an exciting day please email Stefanie Preston, IWA Branch Campaign Assistant, at stefanie.preston@waterways.org.uk or call 01494 783 453 to book your place. Everyone over the age of 14 is welcome (under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult), you do not have to be an IWA member from the London Region area and the event is free - you just have to reserve a place as space is limited.

Do not hesitate to contact Stefanie Preston on the above details if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

Paul Strudwick
IWA London Region Chairman
